My Weight Loss Story

Before and after 2 weeks on the programI’ve had problems with food since I was a child. I wasn’t overweight as a child but I was constantly sneaking into the kitchen to raid the shelves for sugar, raisins, anything sweet. By my teens I was alternating times of overeating with times of ridiculously strict diets. When I left home I began bingeing on chocolate and cakes. Soon I had an eating disorder that lasted until my thirties.

I seemed to overcome that when I went to live for a year in a community where all of our food was provided. It was mostly healthy food too. My weight stabilized and even after I came home, I felt I was in control.

A few years later I gave up my job and started working freelance from home. I live 5 minutes’ walk from the nearest supermarket and I was working right beside my kitchen with nobody to see what I ate. I was eating more and walking less than I did when I worked in an office. Not surprisingly, I started putting on weight. Soon I was back into the vicious cycle of bingeing and dieting. This time, it didn’t stop me gaining.

I tried every kind of diet from raw vegan to Atkins. When I began Atkins induction in 2010 it was the first time I’d ever eaten low carb. I followed the plan in Dr Atkins’ New Diet Revolution, the last version of the diet that Robert Atkins published before he died.

I loved the weight loss and the way that a low carb diet made me feel, but Atkins was too restrictive for me. I like to eat a lot of vegetables and not huge portions of meat. I’m lactose intolerant so I couldn’t switch meat for cheese. I got to the point where I just couldn’t face another egg (and I’ve always loved eggs!) So I slipped off plan and, just like with every other diet, I gained back all that I had lost and more.

In 2011 my weight had reached an all-time high. I was in the ‘obese’ bracket for the first time and decided I had to do something about it – something different from all the diets I had tried before.

So at that time I joined a local slimming group, part of a well known franchise that promotes a low fat diet. I did pretty well and lost 40 pounds in around 18 months, but I still had times when I would lose control completely and gain 7-10 pounds back. Then I’d spend a month or more getting back down to where I was, before I could start losing again.

I wasted a lot of time that way – and I saw a lot of other people in the group doing the same thing. But I still believed I would eventually reach my goal.

Then over the 2012/13 Christmas/New Year holidays I started bingeing, and this time it didn’t seem like it would stop. By the middle of February I’d gained back 15 pounds. I was desperate, suffering from broken sleep and palpitations, unable to concentrate and terrified I was going to gain back all the weight I’d lost.

So when I found a diet plan by Jonny Bowden on Tuesday, February 19th, and saw that it claimed not only to help you lose weight but also to banish your food addictions and cravings forever, I thought “This has to be worth a try.” I downloaded the system and started reading the main items right away.

Jonny Bowden’s weight loss programs are unlike any others I’ve tried. The emphasis that he puts on helping you to beat your cravings and food addictions is helping me to put my health-destroying food binges behind me for ever.

Why not take a look at the program? It could do the same for you.

I usually do not leave a response, however I browsed a few pages here. I do have 2 questions for you if you do not mind. First, do you recommend this same program for a vegetarian? And second, is it suitable for somebody who needs to lose over 100 pounds?

Hi Arlene and welcome! For vegetarians, yes, see my post here. And regarding your second question, it’s always best to talk with your doctor before starting a diet, but my personal view (without being a medical professional) is that this is a great program for long term weight loss.
