Metabolic Renewal Review

Metabolic Renewal is a unique weight loss program for women, designed to suit your individual hormonal requirements. With this plan, they claim you get to create a diet, exercise and lifestyle plan that suits YOU.

Does this work for all women, and more importantly, will it work for you? In this Metabolic Renewal review, we’ll take a closer look to see exactly what you get in the plan, how it works, who it’s right for, and who it’s not right for.

For men, we recommend Metabolic Aftershock instead.

What is Metabolic Renewal?

What’s in the box

Metabolic Renewal is a holistic approach to losing weight, designed especially for women. You follow a slightly different plan according to your stage of life and hormonal profile, which is easily figured out using an online questionnaire.

Metabolic Renewal is a 12-week program that integrates the diet, exercise, and lifestyle plans recommended and customized according to your profile. If you need longer to reach your goal weight and shape, you simply repeat the program, increasing the intensity of the exercises if you wish.

You’ll get the Metabolic Renewal Roadmap containing the flexible diet plan, including recipes. You also get a DVD of graded exercises to do for just 15 minutes, 3 times a week. You can adapt these to suit your individual needs.

The plan is designed to help you lose fat fast by combining short, intense bursts of exercise with a protein-based eating program that doesn’t involve counting calories or going hungry. It was developed by integrative physician Dr Jade Teta, who also designed Metabolic Aftershock.

Metabolic Renewal quick start guide

Inside Metabolic Renewal you get:

1. Quick Start Guide

A two-page summary of the program

2. Exercise Videos on DVD or online

All of the 15-minute workouts for the 4 phases of the 12-week plan, at different levels according to your current fitness. These come on 4 DVDs for you to play on your TV or computer, or you can access them online.
Metabolic-Renewal-DVDs
Dr Jade Teta is your coach and his students demonstrate the different levels for each exercise. According to Dr Jade, all of the exercises can be done at home, with no special equipment (unless you are at a higher level of fitness where you might want to use weights). They are very quick (three 15-minute sessions a WEEK), so you can easily fit it into your schedule.

3. Metabolic Renewal Roadmap

Metabolic Renewal RoadmapA 204-page book covering:

– how Metabolic Renewal works
– hormones and metabolism
– meals, mindset, and movement
– how to get started
– how to accelerate your weight loss

The book also includes the 12-week Metabolic Meal Plan with all the recipes you need. But you don’t have to follow the meal plan exactly. If you prefer, you make your own meals, following the suggested guidelines. (That’s what I do.)
Metabolic Renewal tracker
4. Transformation Tracker booklet

A 30-page booklet for you to track your progress in many different areas including weight, vitality, body shape and much more.

When you order the physical version, all of this comes in a well-designed box where you can keep everything together.

The plan is also available in a downloadable version, which saves you the shipping cost. And if you order the printed pack, you also get the downloadable version for free, instantly. This means you can access the videos online without waiting for everything to arrive in the mail. But it’s pretty good to hold everything in your hands, so if you live in North America where shipping is cheap, I recommend getting the physical copy too.

So here’s what you’re wanting to know from this Metabolic Renewal review:

Does Metabolic Renewal work?

You’ll see testimonials on the live site (click here to see them now), but the exercise element of Metabolic Renewal is based on Jade Teta’s previous Metabolic Prime and Metabolic Aftershock fitness videos. So all of the principles have been tested there.

I’ve been in Facebook groups with the people following those plans, as well as trying them myself. What I can say is that the approach works if you stick to it.

As with Metabolic Aftershock, you’re likely to get the most benefit if you’re either overweight or ‘skinny fat’ (‘skinny fat’ means within the healthy BMI range, but flabby and unfit). If you’re significantly overweight, you’ll probably need to take it slow with the exercise at first, but you can get huge benefits if you persist.

It’s fine to take it slow and do just what you can. Jade Teta stresses this all through the videos. When he says 10 repetitions of something, you can do 5, or just one.

The people who had problems with it were mostly either too disabled to do any exercise at all, or so fit already that the exercises did nothing for them–or so they said. I did find this a little hard to believe! The exercises are graded, and to me, you’d have to be a real gym bunny to feel no benefit at all from the highest grade in the videos.

The lowest grade stretched me at first, but I was pretty unfit. If you have any issues such as knee problems, you can either change out the exercises that don’t suit you, skip some repetitions, or do a lesser version (like stepping instead of jumping).

It’s important to rest when you need to, and don’t do the exercises too often. This is because muscle development actually happens when you rest, not when you exercise.

And of course, check with your doctor before starting any program, especially if you have medical issues.

Who can benefit from Metabolic Renewal

First, this program is especially designed for women. You’ll only be helped by all the references to hormone levels if you’re female (of any age).

It’s designed for women of all ages, including before, during, and after the menopause. There are slightly different plans for these different stages, and some tweaking for different hormonal types of younger women.

Metabolic Renewal DVD caseOf course, you’ll get most out of Jade Teta’s Metabolic Renewal program if you want to lose fat and tone up your body.

The short bursts of exercise recommended here are perfect for women with busy schedules or those who dislike exercise and get bored quickly.

You may need to tweak a few things. For example, I was flicking through the Metabolic Renewal Roadmap and saw a recommendation for post-menopausal women to walk 4 hours a day! I thought–eek! That may work if you’re retired, but nobody with a job could do it! However, it does include ALL kinds of walking that you do during the day, including cleaning the house or walking to the photocopier at work.

I think it’s better to look at it in terms of steps. The program recommends 5,000 to 20,000 steps a day (around 1 to 4 hours if you did all the steps at once, but nobody does.) If you get a step counter, you can easily track this, and you’ll likely be surprised how much you already do.

Who will not benefit from the program

This plan is not designed for men. So if you’re male, I recommend Metabolic Aftershock.

For women who own Metabolic Aftershock and are doing fine with the exercises and diet plan there, you probably don’t need this. You might want to get it anyway for the hormonal aspect or to motivate yourself to follow the program more exactly, but I think you’ll find it follows the same basic plan, which works very well.

If you already do a lot of exercise, and you like working out at the gym, you may find these exercises unnecessary. You might still want to get it for the diet plan, however.

If you can’t or don’t want to move your body at all, I’d recommend getting The Metabolic Factor instead. With Metabolic Renewal, you do need to be prepared to at least stand and move around a little for the 15 minute sessions.

If you’re currently pregnant and don’t already do a lot of exercise, you can benefit from the other portions of this program, but save the exercise element for after you’ve given birth and are ready to get rid of that baby-belly.

Cost, access, and where to buy Metabolic Renewal

Thank you for reviewing this. I am 49 and had uterine ablation 10 years ago because I had fibroids and super heavy and painful periods. But I no longer have a period because of the ablation. But I am not in menopause yet, according to my doctor. Which program would I do?

    1. Rosemary Post author

Danielle, so I guess you are still ovulating? In that case I think you would follow the “estrogen dominant” plan. You can figure out your cycle by the temperature method of tracking ovulation.

If you can’t identify a cycle, perhaps because you are ovulating irregularly, then you would follow the perimenopause plan. This is very similar to the estrogen dominant plan but doesn’t vary according to where you are in your cycle.

      Hope that helps!

I had a lumpectomy 2 years ago and had radiations due to breast cancer. My question is: will this program work for me? I am currently taking estrogen blockers due to the condition I have, and that has set me instantly into menopause. I stopped having my periods over a year now. Due to all these, my metabolism is sluggish, I’m tired all the time, I gained a lot of weight and I have lost interest on things. Will this help me get back on track? I am also vegan and I’m not sure the recipes will work for me.

Hi Abigail. So first I have to say I’m not medically qualified but it seems to me this should work as well for you as for anyone who is going through menopause.

Regarding a vegan plan, you would need to adapt the published plan so that beans/legumes would count in the protein column instead of starch. I’m not sure how this would impact on results, but you would end up with a very “clean” diet, free of most processed foods. I don’t remember if tofu is mentioned but of course that would be a protein too. Things like vegan cheese would probably not work, but then milk-based cheese is not included either. Same for vegan sausages and other highly processed foods.

      Hope that helps, Rosemary

Hi, I am very interested in the programme, I live in the UK, single mom, just need to check, will the cost be $67 – £57 approx including shipping, just a little concerned, and how long will delivery be, who do I contact if I have any issues ? Thank you x

Hi Adele, I am also in the UK and the shipping cost is high, so if I were you I would go for the “download only” version. This is $37 US which I think is around £30.
Delivery should then be instant to the email address that you give during checkout.
      Hope that helps!

I started the quiz but couldn’t answer some of the questions. I had uterine ablation about 5 years ago and don’t have periods anymore. I never had an issue with PMS, just super heavy flow. So, now I don’t know when my cycle is. I’m 51 years old and am noticing the thickening thru my middle. Is there some other way to find out my hormone type?

    1. Rosemary Post author

Hi Tammie, as you don’t have periods anymore and you are noticing the thickening at the middle which is a menopausal sign, I think you would fit the menopausal hormone type.

You’d need to adjust the plan, for example by counting beans as proteins instead of starches. Shakes are an option for some meals, and they mention using pea protein powder. If you eat eggs, that would give you more variety.

The recipes they give mostly have meat or fish, but I never followed any of the recipes anyway, I just made what I wanted from the different food lists. So you could do it, although there are no specific instructions or recipes for vegetarians/vegans as far as I know.

I’m 47 and had a hysterectomy at age 36. The quiz questions didn’t really pertain to my health situation as far as my menstral cycle. Before, I make the investment I need to know if this program will actually work for my unique medical situation since there was no reference made in the video regarding women who have had a hysterectomy. Thanks!

      Hey Renay,
If you’ve had a hysterectomy and are NOT taking hormone replacement therapy, you would follow the same program as post-menopausal women.
If you are taking HRT, then I think you would follow the plan for women who are having a cycle.
      I hope that helps

I’m sorry, I can’t answer that. I don’t have medical knowledge. There is a money-back guarantee, so you could order, then show the plan to your doctor and ask for a refund if your doctor says it would be wrong for you. You could ask the company’s customer services, but I think they would advise you to discuss it with a medical professional who knows you and your medical history in more detail.

So I’ve encountered many of these long winded videos promoting something healthy. This one was at least interesting but yes long winded. I had to carrry my phone around the house as I got dressed. In the end I decided to order the program and had put in my info. Unfortunately while it was “processing” my order, the doctor pops back up again stating ” i’ve got a favor to ask” which translated for me as I have more to offer for additional money. Having decided to order the program I just wanted it to be confirmed and to wait for its arrival in the mail. This additional ” message” was unwanted and I turned off the video, so now I’m not sure if the order was processed or not but it will be a great day when these guys keep it short and to the point. It sounds like a great part of this program is when to do or eat things and how much. That lesson can be expanded to include the solicitation of the program also.

I get what you mean! The “upsells” after you order are a little excessive… and kind of seem to highjack you.

But it’s all fine. If you paid, your order will have been processed. You can totally click away from those later offers and not lose out.

Assuming there was no problem with your credit card, you should find a link for the download version in your inbox of whatever email you used when you ordered (check spam folders if you don’t see it right away). And if you ordered the physical version, that will be on its way to you soon.

I don’t work for the company, but I’ve been a customer and affiliate for several years, so I know they are legit.

Let me know if you have any problems!

I’m 43 and on birth control due to heavy periods. I work out regularly at the gym and somewhat healthy diet. Since turning 40 I’m having a hard time losing weight. I would like to lose about 15lbs. I believe it has to do with a possible hormone imbalance. Will this program help even though I do work out 4-5 days a week.

In terms of weight loss, I think it would work just as well for you as anyone else.

I’m not a doctor and I don’t know whether there would be any consequences for your fibromyalgia, either helpful or not. I always recommend that anybody on medication or undergoing medical treatment checks with their doctor before changing their diet.

Okay, but there can also be some serious side effects to whole body cryotherapy. I hope everyone will research this before booking an appointment.

I’ve edited out the link to your own cryotherapy facility because readers (if they want to risk it) will need to find facilities local to them.

        Hi Rosemary,

I have a few questions. I’m 62 years old and been post menopausal for 5+ years. To be perfectly honest, I never exercise, have never been interested or liked exercising. My goal would be to lose 5-10 lbs., to lose belly fat and hopefully tone up. I am what you described as “Skinny fat”. Are the exercises realistic for someone on the lazy side like me? (I also have hypothyroidism, hypoglycemia and bad knees.)

Is there a book included in the program? I would prefer to watch the videos online, but prefer to read books in hand, not online. Do you know if it’s possible to order the program this way?

        Thanks!

        1. Rosemary Post author

Hi! You sound a lot like me! First, the exercises are quick but intense. If you want to tone up you will have to do some exercise, and this may be a good way to get it done fast. There are different levels, and I think you’ll want to start with an easy level.

There may be some exercises you want to leave out to avoid stressing your knees, but usually you can modify them. For example if burpees are in your workout one day, you can do them with your hands supported on a table or countertop instead of on the floor. You might want to talk to a physical therapist who can examine your knees about what exercises would be good for strengthening them, and which you should avoid.

Yes, there is a physical version of the program with a book and the exercises on DVDs. There’s a shipping/handling charge for this, which is currently only $9.95 in the US and $15.95 for Canada, but gets expensive outside of North America.

I am type 2 insulin dependent. I have gained forty one pounds since starting insulin in last four months. Will this program help shed these pounds and more. I am 63 and had hysterectomy at age 23. Had last hot flash at age 50

Hi, I’m not a doctor but I think that since you have gained so much weight in a short time since starting insulin treatment, you should talk to your own medical team about your gain and follow their advice.

A program like this might help you, but you should first make sure there is nothing that needs adjusting in your medication and treatment. Then your glucose and insulin levels would need careful monitoring while you changed your diet. So it’s important to check that whatever you’re doing has the backing of your own doctor or dietitian.

If they say that a lower carb diet could help you, then this one might be a good fit. But please do discuss it with them.

I’m interested but I am an extremely fussy eater. I can’t eat fish or seafood. I don’t eat many vegetables, especially cooked vegetables. Will I be able to follow your diet?

First, just to be clear, I should say this isn’t my program. I’m just reviewing it. I have the program and I have followed it. Also I do get a small commission when people buy through my link. Beyond that, I don’t have a connection with the company.

Regarding dietary choices: you don’t have to eat fish or seafood.

You do need to eat some vegetables (because it’s a low carb diet, and it wouldn’t be healthy to eat only protein foods) but you could repeat the ones that you like. You could have salad vegetables like lettuce and tomatoes if you don’t want cooked veggies. There’s also some fruit in the plan.

      Hope that helps!

Anything that isn’t in the meal plan isn’t recommended. Alcohol contains calories that don’t add nutrients, kind of like pure sugar, so I think it’s better not to have it when you’re trying to lose weight. I guess if you must have it, have a small amount and have it with a meal so it doesn’t cause such an insulin spike.

      Reply
    1. Rosemary Post author

Only your doctor can answer that, because they know your individual case. Also, your medication may need to be adjusted as you make progress on the program. But generally, losing weight is good for people with Type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association says “Losing just a few pounds through exercise and eating well can help with your diabetes control and can reduce your risk for other health problems.”

I think you would want to make some tweaks, like counting nuts and beans as proteins instead of fats or starches where they are listed in the original plan. If you eat eggs, those are included in the proteins list already.

Then I guess each time your period began, you would be in the first half of your cycle for two weeks, and then until the next period your metabolism would behave like it does in the second half of a cycle, for however long that was.

So one of the questions in the quiz is how often you menstruate and I notice the program takes into account the different times of your cycle. But if you don’t menstruate at all, does the program help you to know where to start in your “cycle” as it would be?

    Reply
    1. Rosemary Post author

      Hi Kristi
If you don’t menstruate because you don’t have a cycle, for example because of menopause or hysterectomy, you would follow the post-menopausal program which does not depend on a cycle.

If you don’t menstruate because of low weight or illness, I’d suggest you take your doctor’s advice on diet rather than following this or any other diet plan.
      All the best,

What if it’s because of birth control? I have an IUD and I’ve had it for a couple years so I wouldn’t know when my ‘cycle’ would even be.

          Page 52:
“If you are taking birth control or hormone replacement therapy, dietary cycling will still work. However, there are a couple of things to be aware of.
          – Your metabolism will behave more like it does in the second half of a cycle, all the time.
          – This means you will be a little more stress reactive and carb sensitive.”

So then there are instructions for how to use the plan for this situation, but they won’t mean anything unless you have the plan and know what is SHMEC and the 3-2-1 diet and the AIM protocol.
